I first met Bud at his evening classes at the College. He was a BRILLIANT teacher. I met Joan (Watson) at the same time and we paired up. We really enjoyed his sense of humour. He threw us into Spencer Road bridge club at the end of our first year of teaching. We were petrified, but he was always passionate, supportive and positive - or negative, but in a humorous way. We were so proud to be part of the new Island Club that he started and thrilled for him that it became the most successful club on the Island. Joan and I would turn up at his table and he would make a disparaging remark and appear grumpy. We nearly always succeeded in making him laugh and a thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all. He was the Isle of Wight's very own 'Mr. Bridge'. His influence here has been enormous. He will be greatly missed. Thoughts with Margaret and his family.
